How to follow a blog through their RSS feed

RSS How To Button

Hi friends! I know this post may be completely unnecessary for some. But really helpful for others. So if you don’t need this tutorial, be sure to check by later this week for another one! I post them often.

Sometimes, especially with non-blogger blogs, like mine is now, the only way to follow a blog is through their RSS feed. What does RSS stand for or mean? For all the technical mumbo jumbo you can go here to read more. If you’d rather the basic run down. It’s a way to take blog posts or other text, really simplify it and put it in a place where it’s convenient for you to read it, like your preferred reader.

Fortunately for both of us, it should be fairly simple to find a blogs RSS feed button to subscribe to it. The RSS button is pretty universal. Though the colors may change. It looks like this:
You can usually find it on the blogs side bar.

So to start our tutorial. The first thing you want to do is locate their RSS button. You can find mine here:

Click on the button. Don’t be afraid, you can so do it! By clicking on the button, you will be taken to a new window that looks two ways like this:
Or like this:
This first picture shows you only the google reader feed (arrow #1), but if you look at arrow #2, you can click there and it will show you all of the most popular readers. You are welcome to select the reader that you use. For me, it’s google reader, so I will be showing you how to set up a feed on that. Click on the box with the google logo inside of it. It will take you here:
Then you simply need to click add to google reader. Unless the blog is your most favorite in the whole wide world you can click to add it to your google homepage. Although if your homepage is related to igoogle…heads up, their getting rid of that too (just like google friend connect in non-blogger blogs). So to be on the safe side, I just click on the “Add to google reader” button.

You will then be led to your reader page:

That means you were successful! I tend to be ridiculously thorough in my tutorials! I promise…reading this tutorial probably will take you longer than actually doing it!

If you have ANY questions whatsoever…please don’t ever hesitate to ask.
I truly hope this tutorial was helpful for some!
…AND if all else fails…you can always subscribe by email! :)

Have a beautiful day friends!

Thanks for this, I’ve done it once or twice, but I flubbed my way along. You proved that what I did was ok and I will probably use it more often now!

Thanks so much! I’ve been faking my way through blogs for about the last 12 months, lol. Recently I’ve had to add a bunch to my RSS feed. (For extra points when I’m entering giveaways) I had NO IDEA what an RSS feed was, where it was, how it worked or why I needed it. I still don’t really understand it. But at least I know how to add a blog to my RSS feed now, lol.

    • Lol I’m so glad that I was able to help you out! A RSS feed makes it so that you can follow a blog through your reader. It helps blogs keep in contact with their readers easier, and you the reader to easily access the blog without having to look it up! :)
