An Impasse

I am finding myself at such a weird impasse lately.

I’ve really gone all out and getting focused on my weight loss, and I really want to talk about it here with you guys. On the same note, I like to post a lot of crafts and I’ve been mostly a craft blog.

There are so many blogs that advise people to stick with their “niche” otherwise they lose followers. So I’m torn.

Right now I have three main parts to my life: family, work, and weight loss. (I like to include God in with my family since he is after all our Heavenly Father). When I have extra time, I LOVE squeezing in a craft. But finding that extra time lately is a little tough.

So, here’s what I’m thinking…since I am a “Crafty weight loss blog” how would you all feel if I still did some fun tutorials once a week or every other week depending on my work schedule and gave updates here and there throughout the week on my weight loss? That way I’m still sharing my crafts when I can do them, but I can also share what’s been happening weight wise without being limited to once a week and then having to remember what it is that I wanted to share.

What do you think? I’d appreciate any comments!

  1. Your blog is an extension of you and we want to get to know you as much as we want to get to know your crafts. I would love to see some of the things you are doing or eating to loose weight as I am on that journey as well. As for me, my niche is a little of everything and that’s the way I like it :)

Im sticking around for whatever. As a plus size girl myself I can certainly appreciate the tough position you’re in. Ive got to do something about my weight too. I’m way too young to be this heavy.

  3. I subscribed to you because I can relate to your weight loss journey so I love those posts and I love a good craft, so you can’t really go wrong with me!

  4. Friend, your blog is first and foremost for YOU. Do what makes you happy! But I will say that some of my favorite blogs are the ones who take a little of this and mix in a little of that and throw a little family update on top. I think your plan sounds fab ;)

I’m a new follower, but I think people come here because of you and your personality! I think you should post just as you said.

  6. I say it’s your blog, post what you want! I’m confusing people daily over at mine, so you should too! Your true followers want to read your blog to hear from you. All the others don’t really matter. :-) I love hearing updates from you, so post on sister!

I like a good craft project as much as the next Mormon mom, but I’m always more drawn to personal stories, so share on I say!!!

  8. Bloggers are more than the sum of their tutorials and is there a bigger DIY project than building a healthy lifestyle for yourself? I think you should share your techniques and what works and what doesn’t for you! I would support it! My husband, who literally *just* started a blog about healthy lifestyle, is coming up on his first year anniversary of his new lifestyle and he’s lost 100 lbs. Not every technique or diet will work for everyone one, but it will work for some people! Good luck!

    • Thanks Kristy! That is so true! That is so amazing to hear about your hubby’s success! I agree that not every diet will work for everybody, there are several different diets for different people! Thank you so much for your kind words and support!

Hey Doll, it’s your blog to do with as you please. If it will make you happy to share your weight loss journey then do it! That may be just the inspiration someone else needs to start their own. If you feel like you should keep posting about crafty things (my favorite) then recycle some oldies but goodies from your craft vault or invite some guest crafters over & you can still do your own crafty things when you can but there won’t be any self imposed pressure :D It’s your blog, so you can’t do it wrong. Make like a bird and fly free!

I’m not a super popular blogger, at under 100 followers, so take that as a grain of salt in my expertise. However, as an avid blog reader, I love when the blogs I follow have personal content mixed in with their “niche” content. I think it would be a great idea! ….and it is your blog after all. Do what you want. :)

  11. Mel P. says:

I started following your blog because of your weight loss journey. And I totally get the little to no craft time.

This is my opinion – this is your blog. Make it what you want and need! “If you build it, they will come.”

  12. Lynn says:

I would rather hear about craft stuff then hearing about the other.

  13. Dawn says:

That sounds like a good idea. I know it’s so hard to balance all the things you love and all the things you need to focus on in your life. And I’m so willing to support you in your weight loss journey. We all need support when we’re working on something like that.

  14. I think it sounds fabulous! I have weeks where sometimes I post a lot and others where I simply can’t squeeze it in. Since I’m on a weight loss journey myself and hoping to get serious about it in a couple weeks, I always really look forward to your weight loss posts! :-)

  15. I love blogs that cover more than one topic and give glimpses into other’s lives! I think it adds personality and gives a blog character. Weight loss is something that almost anyone can relate to. If you do lose a few followers with less craft projects, you will gain others that will draw inspiration from your journey to health. I know you are an inspiration to me!!!

    • Thanks Michelle! I’m so overwhelmed by the support and kindness! I’m definitely gonna do it and let my blog be about all parts of my life, not just the crafty side. You are so kind and I am so grateful to have you as a follower friend!

  16. Tara Parker says:

I say do both! I’ve gone back and forth with the same issue on my blog. I think the most important thing is that you are passionate about what you are writing about – that is what people like to read!

  17. Phoebe Moon says:

I think this is a good plan! You gotta do what lets you breathe easier – and your loyal followers will still be here! I fully intended to have more crafty goodness flooding my blog as well, but in all honesty life has just been too crazy and it sounds like you know what I mean. I think you definitely have readers like me who could always use with more boosts that your shared weight-loss journey gives them. I think you’re fab and that won’t change if you tweak the blog a little ;)

    • Thanks Phoebs! I definitely think this will let me breathe easier! I totally get about how a crazy life makes changes on the blog tough. I’m so grateful I have readers like you who will stick around no matter what! You’re so amazing!

  18. Jess thanks for sharing your concerns. I don’t know if all bloggers come across this impasse, but I know I do all the time. I think that people like the crafts but they also want to know about the blogger behind the blog too. I enjoy hearing about your weight loss because I need to be motivated and you motivate me! Plus, it’s your blog, you should feel comfortable to post what you want. I know it can be tough, but lets be brave together and post what we feel like posting when we want to post it! :)

I think that sounds good. I have been very interested in your weight loss progress, and also love the crafts, so I think that sounds great!
